BEMIDJI AREA TAKE-A-KID FISHING

The Bemidji Area Take-A-Kid Fishing event is currently being organized for the 23 straight year. The 2009 event is scheduled to take place in Bemidji on Wednesday, June 10. Our purpose is to expose kids to the great sport of fishing.

As in the past, 80-100 local anglers will serve as guides and volunteers, donating their time, equipment, and the knowledge required to make the event successful. There has been as many as 200 kids per year participating in this event. The kids are treated to an afternoon of fishing on various area lakes. The event concludes with a fish fry at Lake Bemidji Sate Park for the kids and parents at no cost to them.

Our guides are also asked to recommend kids they feel would best benefit from a trip to fishing camp. Four kids will be selected to attend Camp Wilderness near Park Rapids, Minnesota for four days.

In addition to coverage by local print and radio media, the Bemidji Area Take-A-Kid Fishing event has been featured in regional television shows such as "Fishing the Midwest" with Bob Jenson, "Out and About" with Ralph Jon Fritz, and "Tony Dean Outdoors." National Geographic Magazine has featured the event as well.

We are very proud of our program and truly believe that it is the highest quality of its kind. Organizations from other communities have recently
developed fishing programs for kids after consulting with our committee.

The support that the Take-A-Kid Fishing organization has received over the years has been tremendous and very mush appreciated. As event expenses increase, the committee is appealing to you for your help in defraying some of the costs associated with this worthwhile project.
